INDIVIDUAL GIFTS OFFICER

Full-Time | Compensation: $60k-75k, benefits | Reports to: Advancement Director

THE OPPORTUNITY:

Like many nonprofits, DAP's Individual Donor fundraising has historically been anchored in the Executive Director's personal relationships. Now, DAP is making a deliberate investment in building fundraising infrastructure that is diverse, sustainable, and not dependent on any single leader. The Individual Gifts Officer is central to that strategy. This person will: build and steward a portfolio of individual donors who believe in DAP’s mission; cultivate new philanthropic relationships; and help establish the model for Individual Giving that will strengthen DAP for years to come.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Donor Portfolio Management

  • Manage an active portfolio of 75–125 individual donors and prospects across a range of giving levels

  • Execute a moves management strategy for each portfolio donor: qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, with clear documentation and regular progress review

  • Conduct meaningful personal outreach to donors through meetings, calls, site visits, and events, building authentic relationships grounded in shared mission

  • Solicit and close gifts with confidence, tailoring asks to each donor’s capacity, interests, and giving history

  • Identify and qualify new major gift prospects from DAP’s existing donor file, event attendees, board networks, and community relationships

Stewardship & Donor Experience

  • Design and execute a stewardship program that makes donors feel genuinely connected to DAP’s impact — not just thanked, but meaningfully engaged

  • Develop personalized acknowledgment letters, impact reports, and stewardship communications in collaboration with communications staff

  • Coordinate donor recognition at DAP events and ensure consistent follow-through on stewardship commitments

  • Manage the annual giving calendar, including appeals, renewal campaigns, and year-end giving strategies for the individual donor portfolio

  • Support planned giving conversations and identify donors with estate gift potential, in coordination with the ED and Director of Advancement

Fundraising Infrastructure & Systems

  • Maintain accurate, timely donor records in DAP’s CRM/donor database — tracking contacts, gifts, and relationship notes with rigor and consistency

  • Generate donor reports, portfolio analyses, and pipeline dashboards to support leadership decision-making and board development committee reporting

  • Develop and refine DAP’s individual giving policies, procedures, and gift acceptance guidelines in coordination with the Director of Advancement

  • Support the implementation or optimization of DAP’s donor database, ensuring it functions as a strategic tool — not just a transaction record

  • Track and analyze giving trends, lapse rates, retention, and upgrade pathways to inform annual fundraising strategy

Communication & Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with the Advancement Director, Executive Director, and grants/communications staff to ensure integrated, mission-aligned donor messaging

  • Represent DAP at community events, funder convenings, and sector networking opportunities to raise visibility and cultivate new relationships

  • Support grant proposals and reports as needed, particularly those related to individual giving capacity or development infrastructure

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3–5+ years of nonprofit fundraising experience, with direct responsibility for individual donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship

  • Demonstrated success managing a donor portfolio and closing gifts at the $1k–$25k+ level

  • Excellent relational, written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience with donor CRM systems (e.g., Bloomerang, Salesforce, or similar) and commitment to rigorous data management

  • High degree of personal accountability — follows through on commitments, manages time independently, and meets deadlines

  • Genuine commitment to DAP’s mission and the communities it serves
